Morocco, an explosion of color

In november 2022 we took the ferry from Algeciras, Spain to Tanger, Morocco in our tiny Peugoet 208. The price was 240 euros for 2 adults, 2 children and our car.

The first city we drove to was Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue City, where every house in the medina is painted the deepest indigo blue. This tradition dates back to WWII when Jewish people fleeing Nazi persecution painted walls, floors, and steps as a religious practice. Today, some say it serves to keep mosquitoes away, while others say its for attracting tourists. Either way, it continues to captivate visitors.

The official languages in Morocco are Arabic and Berber. In the Berber alphabet called Tifinagh, the symbol for Z (yaz or aza) represents "free man." It is also featured on the Berber flag and is typically depicted in red.

After Chefchaouen we drove all the way to Agadir for some warmer weather. With a few days in Marrakech during new years. Marrakech is a tourist hot spot, but NOT suited for kids if you ask us. Maybe we'll go back one day for shopping, dining and relaxing in a nice riad.

Agadir was warm enough for barefoot walks on the sand, but staying on the beach meant politely declining camel rides, Berber rugs, and Sahara crystals offered every ten minutes. So, we ventured into the Atlas Mountains and discovered Paradise Valley.
